In the past few years, environmental issues have received great attention at the level of leaders, rulers and decision-makers, a remarkable presence in international, regional and local conferences, forums and symposia, and extensive treatment in the media.
These issues have become of a global nature, having crossed the borders of countries and regions, their problems have overshadowed other global events, and their affairs have become linked to most fields of life.
Talking about protecting the environment, preserving its components, and preserving its resources is no longer a faint talk emanating from modest pulpits from time to time, whispering calls launched by organizations, bodies, or institutions that do not have any global presence, or appeals issued by the recommendations of a number of insignificant conferences and forums.
Rather, talk about these issues has become the focus of the world’s decision-makers, an agenda for a number of the most important global conferences, and draft resolutions issued by United Nations organizations concerned with environment and development affairs.
This remarkable interest in the environment and its affairs aims to achieve sustainable development for mankind, preserve human health and safety, achieve a balance between his requirements and needs from the environment and the energy of this environment and its ability to give, and provide man with his needs from its resources and components without causing any damage, harm, aggression or depletion.
The environmental crisis that developed and developing countries are facing at the present time is essentially a crisis of values, concepts, conflicts and purely personal goals.
Living in a safe, healthy environment requires making fundamental changes in these values and concepts, moving away from the state of great greed, and lack of a sense of responsibility, and people’s awareness that economic progress, material wealth, and technological development should not be at the expense of the environment and its resources at all.
Man is still the strongest influencer in the environment, and at the same time he is still the most affected by what is happening in it, but the matter has recently begun to get out of his control, and environmental problems have become present in every region and area, and its dangers are threatening peoples, countries and regions as a whole, even, sometimes, the entire continents of the world.
This made the world – peoples, organizations and states – shout out to save the environment from man and his activities, and from the unjust exploitation of its resources for the desired development.
